How protective is your mask?
It has been a year since the Covid pandemic started and even with the arrival of vaccines, it looks like masks aren’t going away anytime soon. You might have seen and heard about N95, KN95 and KF94 but don’t know what makes them different. Here is a basic breakdown:
should be worn by healthcare workers only because of limited supply filters out 95% of particles approved by National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH)
Chinese equivalent of N95 can be worn in low to medium risk settings said to filter out 95% of particles not yet approved by NIOSH
Korean equivalent of N95 can be worn in low to medium risk settings said to filter out 94% of particles not yet approved by NIOSH
Regardless of the type of mask you choose, your mask should be tight fitting around your mouth and nose. Try to minimize gaps in your mask. Masks with nose strips or a mask brace help with a tighter fit. Recent recommendations include wearing two different masks for best fit and protection especially when wearing surgical masks or any mask that doesn’t have multiple layers of filtration.
